How the hunt will go. PDF Print E-mail
Breakfast at our lodge is served around 4:30 am. At that time you will be introduced to your guide if you did not meet him the night before. The guide will tell you how far you will drive, conditions of the roads and the field and how far the walk will be. Normally, the walk is not so far that you wouldn't be able to walk back during the hunt for any thing you may have forgotten. When the guide reaches the spot in the field where he wants to set-up, he will ask for your help in putting out the spread. It is important that everyone help in this task so as to have the spread ready at shooting time. The guide will drop rags to build a pattern. Hunters should come behind and fluff the rags. Drape them as high and as large as possible on the stubble or sticks. After the spread is out, the guide will station hunters so as to provide the best cover. The best position is lying on your back and coming to a sitting position when the guide says take them. Let the guide say when to shoot. This gives everyone an even chance and allows the birds to come in as close as possible before anyone shoots. The guide will designate a shooter for singles. He gets the first shot, and then anyone can back him up. The guide will keep up with the types of geese dropped and the quantity and will advise you when not to shoot. Please assist the guide in picking up the spread. He will take the geese birds to our picking house to be processed, but hunters must accompany him and sign the kill.
